Scheduler 2.0, API & v3.10 “Blackbird”
Sam Webster
Software Developer
A completely overhauled scheduler to be faster than ever and super simple to use. For those who need raw data, the API is now in beta, plus a stack more. Let's dive in!
Scheduler 2.0
While in some ways the scheduler may look the same, it's engine has been completely overhauled to be more efficient and performant, especially for organisations viewing hundreds of resources across multiple months all at once.
The event booking experience has also been completely rebuilt, to remove the guesswork and make booking faster, but still provide a high level of fidelity and customisation if required. One more thing we worked hard on with this scheduler upgrade was also making the experience nicer on phones, tablets and other small devices.
With the revised architecture behind the scheduler, it's now much easier to link or group multiple events together, something which was always possible with lesson-based events, but is now possible for any event or booking, such as linking multiple sectors together for a charter job.
Default Groups
We heard you loud and clear, and now you can specify a default group for your people. This cuts out, and takes care of an often overlooked step when booking, which for those organisations who use automated group pricing, can be a tricky one to fix up after the fact.
API
The API is now in beta! If you need bare metal access to your data within Smart, then the API is for you. It does require some developer knowledge, but in the right hands can yield your organisation highly customised and specific tools and reports. Contact our team if you would like access to the beta.
Lesson Record Inspector
Sometimes you need to search through a student's lesson records via the competency, element, or performance criteria, perhaps when trying to identify where/when a particular element was assessed.
Previously you would have to manually search record-by-record, now you can simply search the name or code of the competency, element or performance criteria and see a list of lesson records where that was assessed, making pinpointing information effortless.
The Rest
With each release we have been putting more effort into the "Latest News" which automatically pops up when we release a new version, and can be accessed from the dashboard at anytime. You have probably read all about this release there.
Remember to please check the release notes for all the details, as there is just too much to cover here, but some notable items are:
- Resource warning labels
- Better display of the aircraft type across the scheduler
- Create & edit meetings from the scheduler
- Default event types for resources & resource types
- Overhauled arrival and departure flight dashboards
Wrap Up
The scheduler is at the heart of Smart, and so we strive to ensure it's modern, performant and up to the task. Progress on building the app continues, and we have some upgrades coming to the dashboard and better support for jet & turbine operations in the next release. Until next time!
